User Instructions

Installation: Decide on the best location. This should be in a position that is within reach of a telephone socket or extension and is also within 6m (20ft) of the door, window or cabinet you wish to protect with the magnetic sensor. It should also be 1.5m (5ft) or higher on a wall but within reach of the user. Use it to cover a likely route an intruder may take or mount in the room containing valuables. Drill 2 holes in the wall. Attach the fixture. Now wire up the magnetic sensor (optional). Connect these wires into the HouseSitter depressing the yellow buttons and inserting the wires. Position the magnet on the door, the sensor on the frame, next to one another.

Inputting Telephone Numbers: Decide on the one or two numbers you want HouseSitter to phone, write them down. With the Main Switch off and the door closed, press reset with a point, then enter M, then the first phone number and A. The second number is entered the same way; M, second number, and C (remember, STD dial codes or 9 and pause if you are using an office switchboard). The memory will hold these numbers for 10 minutes during a battery change.) You will hear a beep every time you press a key (except reset).

  • Most frequently asked questions:

HouseSitter unit doesn't do anything ! -  Check batteries are in correctly (facing alternate directions).

I can program in the numbers but HouseSitter won't set.- Check  magnetic contacts (if used) are shut.

It squeals at me when I switch it on - Batteries are flat.

  • HouseSitter rarely has false alarms. (about 1 in 10 i.e. 90% are genuine activations). If the sun has shone on a sensor this might set it off, reposition the sensor. If the sensor has been left in place a long time insects/spiders may have built a web in front of it !

  • The HouseSitter Alarm is a valuable addition to your security arrangements but should be used in conjunction with other security precautions and appropriate insurance.

And if it goes off ....

  • If you are a member of the public...listen in carefully. If you are certain it is an intruder call the police on 999 and describe that you are listening to your property and you can hear an intruder. If you are not certain wait for HouseSitter to shut off and ring the property yourself. Otherwise call a neighbour who can visually (from the outside) inspect the property. With a crime in progress, the police will respond as high priority (but may not always get there in time) Do not try to apprehend the criminal(s) yourself - this could be dangerous.

  • If you are a security professional or policeman...listen in carefully, try to ascertain the level of risk and phone for support if appropriate. Call the property and ask for the password.
