CarSitter / ShedSitter User Instructions
Basic Principle:
CarSitter & ShedSitter have been developed in response
to an increase in car and shed crime and a reduction in arrests and clear
up rates. CarSitter and ShedSitter will let you know when
someone is getting into your car / shed (but not let them know). In addition
it will enable you to check that a crime is actually occurring before
you call the police thereby minimising a false call out and maximising
police response. (Currently a big problem for all police forces). It is
not recommended that you try to prevent a crime occurring which could
be dangerous.
Set Up:
Place the 2 batteries correctly in the InfraRed (if you do this wrong
you could damage a component.) Position the InfraRed inside your car or
shed (using the Velcro if you wish).
(Car: At the front where the windscreen meets the dashboard. This maximises
the glass around the InfraRed and therefore minimises the risk of the
signal being blocked out by the body of the car.)
(Shed: High in a corner, where the beam will cover the door and entry
through the window. Make sure the sensor is not facing a window because
the sun may cause false alarms)
Mount using the Velcro if you wish. Switch the InfraRed on. Plug a 9
v Power supply into the "Tidin" Receiver (ensuring it is set
on 9v with the centre pin as positive, if you initially get this wrong
when you switch the receiver on it will stay silent, reconfigure the power
supply and switching on the receiver will then buzz for a few seconds).
Position the Receiver in an appropriate room in the house preferably with
line of sight to the InfraRed. (Placing it in a window can work exceptionally
well) Switch on the mains power to the adaptor. Switch on the receiver,
position it vertically, it will give a short buzz (if it doesn't switch
it off and on again quickly. It is best that there is line of sight between
the InfraRed and the receiver. The radio connection won't be made if the
metal roof/sides of the car are in the way. The radio waves will travel
through some brick, stone or a tree trunk as long as this is not too thick.
If reception is not possible try the CarSitter InfraRed at the back
of the car so it transmits through the rear window.
Test: ask someone to get in your car while you monitor the receiver.
When they get in, the CarSitter Receiver will buzz.

Hints and Tips
- The Receiver can be powered by battery (9v PP3). It can therefore
be portable. This battery only lasts 24hrs so it is recommended to use
the power adaptor for permanent installations. If the battery is weak
the receiver will not sound when the InfraRed is triggered (Note switching
the InfraRed on and off may still set it off - do not be mislead)
- The range is better if the "Tidin" receiver is mounted vertically.
- The InfraRed batteries should last many weeks, even if CarSitter
is switched on every night. You may wish to buy a battery charger and
another set of batteries and get into the habit of changing them regularly.
Make a note to do this in your diary.
- If you mount the receiver in your window, when you switch on the CarSitter
InfraRed at night, you will see the light come on showing it is working.
- All InfraReds can be "blinded" by the sun. If this may occur
try to reposition the InfraRed.
- All InfraReds can be disabled if the car/shed interior becomes hot
(above 35 degrees).
- CarSitter will not work properly in a soft-top car if the top
is down.
- The CarSitter™ Alarm is a valuable addition to your security
arrangements but should be used in conjunction with other security
precautions and appropriate insurance.
And if it goes off ....
- Look out the window, if someone is breaking into your car or shed
phone 999 and report a crime in progress, the police will respond as
high priority (but may not always get there in time) Do not try to apprehend
the criminal(s) yourself - this could be dangerous.
- If you do not see anyone go down and inspect your vehicle to see what
set it off. Perhaps the sunroof or window was open or the sun came out
(at a low angle) from behind clouds or a tree and shone briefly on the
InfraRed. (If this proves a problem, use a sunblind in the window).
