The ShedSitter
Project
Combat shed crime by catching thieves
in the act...
Spring is the season for garden thieves and the ShedSitter
Project is helping police to catch them in the act.
Unlike traditional
alarms which allow thieves to make a swift exit, the ShedSitter
is a covert device and only alerts the homeowner.
|
It consists of a passive infra red detector which sits in the shed
and a small wireless receiver for the house. If a thief is detected,
the homeowner is quietly informed, so they can confirm a crime is
in action and call the police.
Surrey Police has already requested 100 ShedSitters to loan to the
public in an initiative to increase its clear-up rate.
The ShedSitter Project now makes it easy to implement similar initiatives
across the country, by providing a free evaluation unit and discounts
on bulk purchases. Please see the ShedSitter product details pricing
information. The British Crime Survey shows that there
are around half a million thefts from gardens each year and about
half are from garden sheds.
|
To a thief, a shed is easy pickings and the chances of getting caught
are slim. It can also be difficult for the victims to prove ownership
of recovered items as many items are generic.
The most reliable way to clear up shed crime is to catch thieves in
the act and ShedSitter makes this possible.
The ShedSitter alarm is low-cost and represents a long-term investment
as it can be re-used many times and leant to a number of consecutive
people.
It can also be used to combat car-crime, covertly catching car thieves
in the act.
